10 years of Brough Business Centre celebrated

10th October 2019

Brough Business Centre recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, providing professionally run office space for businesses within the local area.

Located at the Humber Enterprise Park on Skillings Lane, Brough Business Centre was originally created through the renovation and remodelling of the ‘old flying club’ on the BAe Systems (Operations) Ltd site in 2008.

With 3.5million funding from Yorkshire Forward, European Regional Development Funds and East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the business centre provides bright and modern office accommodation for businesses that wish to work in a dynamic shared environment and enjoy the short-term flexibility of the centre’s licence agreements alongside other like-minded individuals.

Conference delegates have also been well-catered for in Brough’s impressive meeting spaces which come complete with presentation equipment, smart boards, WiFi and projectors included in the hire charge, a facility available to external businesses and not just users of the building.

The centre is currently home to 21 different businesses occupying 93% of the lettable space, which ranges from 15m2 to 66m2 in size.

Over the years, around 14 new business start-ups have taken space at the centre and accommodated a further 49 different established businesses in sectors such as software and IT, training, architecture and design, finance, consultancy and engineering.

Councillor Jane Evison, portfolio holder for local economic growth and prosperity, said: “Brough Business Centre has been an easily accessible and affordable office space for the many businesses that have called it their home in the past 10 years.

“It has also been, and will continue to be a tremendous source for job creation, with over 180 new ones created in the past flourishing decade for the centre.”
Various, long-standing tenants have also expressed their satisfaction with the facilities.

Robert Barrett, managing director of ar2 architects Ltd, said: “We have been located within the centre for almost 10 years. It is excellently positioned for easy access to Hull City Centre or West Yorkshire, with ample parking for staff and visitors alike.

“All the staff are friendly and professional in accommodating our requirements and their support is valuable to our business, making it instrumental in our growth and ultimately an enjoyable place to work.”

New Nordic Ltd moved into the centre in 2009. Steve Skitt, country manager, said: “I find the venue and location very convenient for my business. I take a country drive from Beverley most days and it is convenient for the A63, M18 and the rail link from Brough Station for business travel.

“The offices are very well-maintained, and the reception and services provided are first class. Thank you for the first 10 years!”

Lloyd Cowburn, from Pad Group Software Ltd, which occupy two office spaces at the centre, said: “We really enjoy the modern environment which, despite being 10 years old, looks fresh as it ever did.
“The team have always been really helpful and accommodating, and allied with a great location near to the A63 and a nationally linked train station, we’ve not wanted to go elsewhere.”

JayJay Media have been the longest tenants at the building. Joe Sargieson said: “I can say we truly made a great decision 10 years ago in deciding where to base our office.

“The building is a stunning Art Deco modernisation which always wows our visiting clients, and it’s inspiring to be able to come to work in such surroundings every day.

“As a small team, the space has been flexible for us and the other services such as the full-time receptionist, bookable room hire and communal break-out facilities have made us feel part of a larger community.

“Here’s to the next 10 years of Brough Business Centre!”
